Dean Faculty Of Agriculture

The faculty of Agriculture was established in 1973 as the school of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry which was pioneered by the then Acting Director, Dr. Edward D. Spiff. Faculty of Agriculture was one of the faculties established alongside the new University of Science and Technology with Four different Departments that took various programmes and courses. The Departments were grouped into:

Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension.

Department of Agricultural Engineering and Fisheries Technology.

Department of Animal/ Food Science Technology.

Department of Crop/Soil Science Technology.

Since inception, new Departments and Research Institutes were created making a total of 8 (eight) Departments and a Research Institute. The Faculty currently offers courses in the different Departments both in Undergraduate, Post graduate and Centre for Continuing Education (CCE). Subsequently, the undergraduate regular students run a five year course of study while the part time (CCE) students run a six year programme. Also, the Postgraduate students run their programmes for duration of about 2 to 5 years as it were. During the years of study in Faculty of Agriculture, a fairly wide range of subjects are taught to students in order to
provide a broad background knowledge in Sciences, as well as Economics and Agriculture.

OBJECTIVE OF THE FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE

The broad objective of the Faculty of Agriculture is to train high level manpower equipped to serve the nation in various fields of Agricultural Science. Other specific objectives are to:
Promote partnership with industries in and around Port Harcourt.

  • Establish exchange programmes for staff and students with universities in Nigeria and
    outside Nigeria.
  • Modify the admission policy to it make more cosmopolitan with emphasis on admission
    of foreign students.
  • Aggressively promote attendance of Conferences within and outside Nigeria.
  • Prepare students for professional careers in Agricultural fields.
  • Produce trained manpower who will effectively mobilize the rural communities through
    the research farm for increased agricultural productivity.

level, approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) as follows:
